About Charlotte Peterson

Charlotte Peterson is a Fine Art photographer whose work is narrative driven and utilizes self-portraiture, examining themes of dark and light as a means of self exploration. She creates images that are meant to confront emotions that are often ominous and foreboding, to understand her own internal struggle with those concepts.

Charlotte’s primary artistic focus is composite photography as she believes this allows her to create the images she envisions without limitation. Through her work she hopes to uncover what lies in the subconscious mind and how subconscious thought often comes in fragmented pieces of information. Composite photography allows her to create images that are reflective of our relationship with our inner mind. Charlotte uses remnants of multiple images to create a whole image as I feel that it represents and reflects that fragmentation.

Charlotte’s love of photography started with film; she still creates images utilizing several different capture methods, including instant film using a Lomo’Instant Wide camera as well as a Rolleiflex TLR medium format camera.

Charlotte was raised in small town Nenana, Alaska where she fostered a love for the great outdoors, exploring, and creating. She resides in Fairbanks, Alaska with her daughter and husband and recently graduated from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks with a BFA in photography.
