In an effort to push myself creatively (and also bring you more content), I have decided to take part in a 52 week photography challenge where I share an image once per week for a whole year. If you're not familiar, the goal of a photo challenge is to get out of your comfort zone and shoot something you normally wouldn't as well as consistently shooting something new. All the images I share have to be created that same week, no sharing old gems. Most of these challenges are supposed to start at the beginning of the year but here I am in true Charlotte fashion: better late than never! I was also considering doing the 365 photo challenge but that seems like pure insanity.
This week I had the great fortune of getting to visit with a dear friend who is also a photographer. Along with sharing her wisdom and knowledge of the art world she also gifted me a belated birthday present: attachable iPhone lenses! After testing out all of the lenses (macro, wide angle and fisheye), I was inspired to use the macro lens on the dead roses that have been sitting on my kitchen table since Valentines Day. I know, its been a month but don’t even ask me when we took our Christmas tree down this year.
Generally, when I shoot something "serious" I don't necessarily go for my iPhone. Don’t get me wrong, there are amazing photos out there created with a phone but it’s something I don’t usually gravitate towards. When I shoot I’m often thinking of the print and want the best quality/largest image possible. However, I took note from my afore mentioned friend, who takes gorgeous photos with her phone, and decided that using equipment off of my beaten path would fit perfectly with this challenge. I am pleasantly surprised at the outcome!
I want this challenge to allow me to push the boundaries of what I think a good image can be, I want it to allow me to look at things in a new light and from different angles to foster and encourage change to my photographic vision. I will try new capture methods in an effort to further myself from my "norm". With that I want to turn this around and challenge you as well; what are you doing this week to get yourself thinking outside the box and looking at things from a new perspective? It doesn’t have to be some grandiose, lofty idea. Hell, it doesn’t even have to have anything to do with art. Try ONE thing this week that gets you thinking about your life in a new way. Creativity is something we can all achieve, no matter what age, not matter our walk of life.
As always, I hope you enjoyed what you read. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Below are two bonus images from this weeks photo challenge. Enjoy and have a great Sunday.
